Performance VPN

Performance VPN is a comBOX service designed to enable the creation of secure, reliable and efficient point-to-point virtual circuits over the Internet. It utilizes mulitple low-cost Internet connections and effectively aggregates their bandwidth to a single high speed link.

Performance VPN uses comBOX equipment at both remote endpoints. Each endpoint can select independently the number of the conventional sub-connections it will use, according to the specifications of the available conventional connections and the desired upstream rates.

In case of using ADSL sub-connections, the overall speed of the link is limited by the upstream rates at each endpoint due to ADSL's low upload/download speed ratio. When the main traffic volume is expected to flow towards one direction, Performance VPN allows the creation of asymmetric point-to-point links, minimizing the number of required sub-connections at the endpoint with low upstream rate needs.

Additionally, using the comBOX equipment improves the Internet connection's overall speed and reliability at both endpoints thanks to the Load Balanced DSL service. All functionalities offered by the Load Balanced DSL service are included in Performance VPN at both endpoints.

Since the local area network users and processes use the same Internet resources for other purposes (eg web browsing), comBOX prioritizes Performance VPN traffic against other kinds of traffic in order to keep the point-to-point link quality from degrading.

By carefully selecting the providers of the conventional connections, it is possible to maximize the availability of the service since in the event of a sub-connection that stops responding, it will automatically be isolated and no downtime will occur for the Performance VPN link. The only implication during such events will be the temporary reduction of the overall available bandwidth by the rate the malfunctioning connection contributed, until it resumes functioning.

Performance VPN poses a competitive alternative compared to leased line point-to-point circuits. It offers the same reliability and speed characteristics in a more cost-effective manner, while improving the connections to the rest of the Internet at the same time.
