Take advantage of the new Virtual Leased Line technology and get Internet access with better specifications than those of a traditional leased line at a much lower cost.

comBOX services implement innovative ideas that allow the creation of professional connections from multiple low-cost network resources such as DSL connections. Included in the comBOX service bundles are the comBOX network appliance and comBOX software which incorporate advanced technology to effectively aggregate the bandwidth of multiple connections as well as maximising your network's reliability and security.

comBOX services are fully managed, that is to say equipment installation, service configuration and ongoing management and support is performed by Protonyx Data Services. If you are interested in more information in the technology and support of comBOX services please get in touch using contact form.

To use comBOX services it is necessary to install a comBOX network appliance. It is a sophisticated network device connected to your company network (LAN side) and with multiple internet connections (WAN side). The installation of a comBOX network appliance is made following a study of your corporate network and its use and requires no special configuration changes on the part of connection providers or the corporate LAN. Depending on your needs, comBOX network appliances feature four or eight ports for WAN connections, which can be fixed (eg DSL) or wireless (3G).

The comBOX network appliance is the node where the corporate network is connected to the Internet connections. It carries out, with the help of comBOX software, the sharing and routing of data.

comBOX network appliances include support for the High Availability Clustering system which allows the use of more than one device to avoid disruption to comBOX services in case of hardware problems.

comBOX software

The software used by the comBOX network appliance and comBOX network server is responsible for management of data distribution to individual Internet connections.

Besides basic multi-WAN routing (basic failover and load-balancing), the other features of comBOX services are performed using advanced technologies incorporated in the comBOX software on a modular basis. This allows services to be customised to meet individual business's precise corporate network needs.

  • Virtual Leased Line technology

Virtual Leased Line technology solves the problem of obtaining a single high-speed and reliable connection without the cost of leased lines from ISPs. It is the main element in service bundles comBOX VLL and comBOX VPN, that combines the individual connections (DSL / 3G) into a virtual leased line.

Using the comBOX network server and specialised systems for Bandwidth Aggregation, Data Compression, Smart Failover and Secure Networking, Virtual Leased Line technology ensures the quality of the virtual leased line.

  • Packet-Loss Management

Very often the quality of DSL/3G connections fluctuates as a result of data packet loss. To manage such situations, comBOX services' Packet-Loss Management system utilises special algorithms used in satellite communications. This provides Transparent Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) and TCP acceleration functions, incorporates the TCP-Hybla protocol and ensures fast and uninterrupted data flow.

  • Bandwidth Management

Many realtime applications require the prioritising of a specific type of data traffic, in order to achieve constant speeds without interruptions, when there is simultaneous traffic of other types to and from the Internet. Priority setting as well as definition of bandwidth available for each type of data (QoS, traffic shaping and prioritisation, maximum and guaranteed bandwidth) is undertaken by the Bandwidth Management system, which manages the flow of data and allows for better performing Streaming Media Services (VoIP centers, Video-Conferences, WebTV, Internet Radio Broadcasting, Surveillance Platforms, E-Learning platforms) and the control of speed per application/user.

  • High Availability Clustering

The High Availability Clustering prevents downtime due to hardware problems. Its use allows for the smooth running of comBOX services in case of hardware failure through the management of reserve comBOX network appliances which are automatically enabled when needed (redundancy). The integration of the High Availability Clustering system in Virtual Leased Line technology also includes the cloud-infrastructure based comBOX network server.

  • Advanced Firewall

The Advanced Firewall system enables access to and from the corporate network to be controlled. It filters all data flowing through the comBOX network appliance and can be customised to provide specialised data routing and enhanced protection of the corporate network from malicious cyber attacks. Its activation is particularly important where there are in-house hosting services and/or Virtual Private Networks.

  • Web Proxy

The Web Proxy system integrates HTTP Proxy functions into comBOX services. It analyses HTTP traffic to and from the Internet and provides access options depending on the user or the address and content of Web pages (content filtering).

  • Virtual Private Networking

Remote access to a internal corporate network is achieved via VPN which exploits multiple DSL or 3G connections to provide high speed and reliable data traffic that is encrypted using AES 256-bit algorithm for enhanced security. Virtual Private Networking is commonly used to connect branches with the comBOX VPN service bundle, which works like a point-to-point virtual leased line.

  • Reporting System

You can have at your disposal information about the use of comBOX services and the status of individual lines and therefore measure their benefits for your corporate network. The Reporting system monitors the status of comBOX services, each Internet connection (speed, uptime, packet loss), data traffic and volume, and provides reports which help customise comBOX service components and supervise the corporate network.

  • Integrated Media Streaming

Generally the transmission of multimedia streams to multiple recipients requires a Streaming Server whose use and customisation have traditionally been not only expensive but also involved time consuming procedures. Now with Integrated Media Streaming these features can be integrated with comBOX services for improved performance and minimised use and customisation costs. Streaming is done with the help of the comBOX network server which is in constant communication with the comBOX network appliance at the production site, receiving the stream and then relaying it to the final recipients. comBOX services Integrated Media Streaming is used in applications for WebTV and internet radio broadcasting and significantly improves transmission quality.
